I am Juha Korri, a 38 years old life insurance mathematician. I have an MA degree from mathematics and I work for insurance company Tapiola.

I have two hobbies: sports and dogs. Sports have always been a part of my life and still are, and I also compete every now and then. I try to keep my range of sports as wide as possible, but my main focus is on cross-country skiing and long-distance running. I have also combined dogs and sports by taking up skijouring. My interest in dogs has also been of the more permanent type, as I have been involved in dog training for 24 years and still going strong. I have tried almost everything with dogs. At the moment my greatest interests are the different types of protection work and when working with Malinois dogs, their great hearts. In addition to my hobbies, my free time is filled by my family, Susanna and her daughter Alina and five great Malinois dogs. Together we come up with all kinds of fun and stimulating things to do.
My first sports dog was Belgian Shepherd male Keel or "Kipi", who competed with me in reporting, search, general search trial (consisting of different types of tracking and searching tasks) and protection. Kipi was an absolutely wonderful working dog, because no matter what I asked him to do, I could be sure that he tried his best. Because of that, working with Kipi was a source of nothing but great joy. My next working dog was also a belgian shepherd male, Valkohampaan Fonzarelli or "Fonzie" who was the opposite of Kipi. He was crazy and did everything the way he wanted to. Fonzie would only cooperate when he was kept under strict discipline and I competed with him successfully in tracking and protection. I would say that Fonzie was extremely talented as a skijoring dog, but our success was not as great as his talent, because at that time skiing was not my main focus and I knew practically nothing of freestyle skiing.
Kipi and Fonzie were also my parents' dogs and my first own dog was Laekenois male Valkohampaan Barbaari or "Conan", who was a very talented dog in many respects, but so aggressive that he was not suitable for any sports. He was reliable, though, because you could rely on him to bite any stranger who came to pet him, and pretty badly too. When Conan was seven years old, there was an unfortunate accident, and in spite of all the care I took, he bit a friend of mine with serious consequences. When there was another close call in the next two weeks, I decided to have him put down before he could cause more damage. It is impossible to be so careful, that there is never any chance for anyone to come in contact with my dog. I competed with Conan in protection and skijouring, but his career ended shortly because trial days were mixed with horror for me, as I had to worry for other people's safety.
After Conan I got my first working Malinois, Sitaran Egon or "Rio". Rio was a talented dog in every other way, but he was very sensitive and every setback in his career piled up in his mind and he had a hard time trusting himself. I did manage to get Rio enough results to get him to IPO class 3 and if Fonzie was extremely talented in skijoring, Rio was extremely talented in field tracking. He had an incredible appetite and because of his sensitivity, he was really easy to guide into working precisely. After Rio I got a very promising Malinois male puppy from Belgium, Xyrvo du Boscaille or "Erno". Erno was a little devil, but his immense energy disappeared as he grew up and he became too slack to succeed at the top level in protection sports. However, I did get a first prize in IPO class 3 with Erno.
After Erno, I got a Malinois male called Pois Kottoo Karma or "Toope", who has been very enjoyable to work with. Toope has such strength of character, you can proudly take him anywhere. The only problem is that Toope is currently retired from protection, as his back problems got to that point already at the age of 7,5 years. My current sports dog is Daneskjold Kvante or "Elmo", imported from Denmark and owned by Susanna and Katja Tammelin. I am Elmo's co-owner while his breeding rights belong to Susanna and Katja. I enjoy working with him fully, he has been healthy as a horse and full of energy to work with me. For me the main thing in my hobbies has been the joy I get out of it, and Elmo really gives it to me.
Apart from training my own dogs, I have also trained others as a protection helper and in seminars, training camps and ordinary training sessions. I have also tested a lot of dogs, including puppies. As a helper, I can only coach a limited number of dogs, but I have always been ready for single training sessions, for example for competing dogs. I have also tested beginners by having a training session with them, and telling what I think about the dogs capacity for protection work and how it should be trained. I have tested litters when looking for a dog for myself or my friends, and when breeders have requested it, because they have wanted to know how their puppies would "succeed" in such a test.
Here are some of my accomplishments:
I have...
>> competed in all working dog trial types and all classes (except in guide dog trials and novice class reporting)
>> trained and competed with five of my six dogs, so that they have reached class 3 in protection, my seventh dog is currently growing up
